Die Queen of Colours (eine Bezeichnung, die ihr sehr gut steht *g*) Ester, ändert mal wieder den Namen ihres Blogs. Statt Stricktatur (eigentlich auch eine sehr hübsche Wortbildung) heißt Madames Blog nun -> Colour up your Life.

Mir ist's egal wie es nun heißt, ich mag ihre Esterzöpfe und vor allen Dingen sie ;o)

Winke an Ester, die Farbenkönigin

Was passiert, wenn eine unglaublich reizende Person, die wunderbare Farbstränge herstellt und manche sogar selbst behält und zu unglaublich schönen Garnen verarbeitet, zu einem kommt und fragt, was sie aus einem bestimmten Garn machen soll. Irh wisst schon, die klassische Clownskotze (was kotzen Clowns? Na bunte Luftschlangen *bg*). Das Garn, das so schön aussieht, Freude schon beim Anschauen verbreitet und verstrickt im besten Fall einfach nur langweilig ist und im schlimmsten nur schrecklich aussieht? Und natürlich meinte sie gleich, ich sollte bloß nicht weben sagen und natürlich sagte ich: verweben ;o)

Aber ich bin eine schlechte Lehrerin und nahm das Knäuel und ging nach Hause und produzierte einen Zirkusschal aus Clownskotze *g*

You know, the kind of yarn which looks absolutely wonderful, feels great and knits into something dull to horrible? die meisten Fasern des Färbevergnügens von vor ein paar Wochen sind nun versponnen. Hier ein paar Ergebnisse. Ziel war es möglichst viele Singles in unterschiedlichen Stärken zu spinnen. Nun müssen noch ein paar Stränge trocknen und dann kann ich damit weben ;O)

Wenn es so etwas wie eine Starteritis gibt, dann befinde ich mich im Moment im Zustand der Finitis. Ganz im Augenblick beende ich Projekte. Das eine größere Projekt, welches ich Anfang der Woche beendet habe, kann ich leider nicht im Bild zeigen, da meine Kamera so eine eigenartige Farbverschiebung reinbrachte, dass man eigentlich nicht viel erkennen kann. Es ist eine Strickjacke, für mich aus Gabis schwarz-weiß Vlies. Sie ist prima, ich würde sie auch gerne tragen, sie passt und fühlt sich gut an, aber dieses melierte grau-schwarz-weiß ist einfach zu rustikal für meinen Geschmack. Und eigentlich hatte ich ein Bild von ihr gemacht, bevor ich sie zum Einweichen ins Wasser legte. Aber das ist ja nichts geworden. Also gibt es erst ein Bild hinterher. Denn sie wird nun gefärbt ;o)

Dann wurden noch ein paar Stränge Garne fertig. Ihr wisst schon, dieses ganze Zeug, was halb fertig auf den Spulen rumlungerte oder darauf wartete verzwirnt zu werden und das ist es. Nun stricke ich noch die zwei Paar Socken fertig und dann, ja dann kann ich mal wieder was Neues anfangen.

If there is such a thing as starteritis, then I'm in the middle of a finitis. I have the urge to finish projects. I planned to show a picture of one finished project, but my camera discoloured the image. It is a cardigan in natural black-white-grey wool. It fits, it feels great and I would love to wear it but the colours are so rustic, country-style which definitely is not me. Well, now the cardi is in the bath waiting to be dyed ;o) Pics of the finished thing later.

sieht mein Humanus nun aus ;o) Nein, im Ernst. Ich hatte mein Humanus ja eine ganze Zeit lang verliehen und als ich es nun wieder zurückbekam und mal wieder dran spann, merkte ich, dass ich eigentlich viel lieber mit meinem Tom deluxe spinne. Also ergriff ich bei Dags Spinntreffen die Gelegenheit und bot mein Humanus zum Verkauf oder Tausch an. Und schwupps fand sich eine Liebhaberin, die mir dafür dieses wunderbar große, weiche, seidige Fell einer Mohairziege gab. Glücklich zogen wir beide von dannen *g*

This is how my Humanus spinning wheel looks like now *g* Recognize it? No, serious. I swaped my second spinning wheel for a wonderful fur from a mohair goat. It's huge and soft like silk. I still have my Tom deluxe and am so happy with it, I don't need another/a second wheel. So, when I was at Dags spin retreat, I offered my Humanus for trade and found someone who looked for a nice wheel suitable for children. Which means, I am a single wheel familiy again ;o)

Bei meiner letzten Färbeaktion mit Procion MX (ist nun auch schon einige Wochen her) wollte ich ausprobieren, ob man Chenille auch direkt auf der Kone färben kann. Kann man, wenn man damit zufrieden ist, dass die Farbe weiter innen nur noch als einzelne Spritzer vertreten ist. Auch recht, dachte ich mir und färbte noch ein kleines Knäuel mit Pfirsich und Goldgelb bis Zitrone und wollte es für einen mäßig breiten Schal als Kette nehmen. Ich hatte mir gedacht, dass es mit demselben Garn als Schuss dann eine Art Ikat bilden wird.

Also Kette geschärt und aufgebäumt und kurz vor dem Nervenzusammenbruch bei einer Breite von ca 15 cm aufgehört. Chenille dreht sich. Zumindest dieses Chenille tut das. Das tut es auch beim Stricken, aber da hat man immer nur mit einem Faden zu tun. Hier waren es einige Kettfäden, die ich auch noch etwa 3,20m lang gemacht hatte. Es sollte ja ein langer und schmaler Schal werden. Mit Hilfe des besten Mannes von allen, kriegte ich es dann doch hin, die Kette zu aufzubäumen und gut war's. Das Weben zog sich hin, war auch bei der schmalen Breite keine wirkliche Freude, aber der Stoff ist einfach yummy. Er sieht gut aus, er fühlt sich noch besser an ... einfach ein Traum. Soviel Traum, dass ich fast bereit bin die Hölle des Aufbäumens zu vergessen und es noch einmal zu versuchen. Aber noch nicht sofort. Ich denke, wie beim Kinderkriegen sollte man ein bisschen Zeit zwischen den Schmerzen vergehen lassen ;o)

Some time ago, while I was dyeing with Procion MX, I thought, why not dyeing a whole cone of yarn without unwrapping it. I tried and dyed and the result was ... a bit patchy. The farther I went inside, the less colour was on the cone. But in the end, it looked a bit like ikat dye. So I dyed a small skein in peach, lemon and gold and used it as warp. My dream was a small but long chenille scarf.

While warping my Ashford RH, I had to learn that chenille needs a lot of tension. More tension than I could provide, so the yarn started to twist around itself and any other warp end that was available. My dream turned into hell and only with the dedicated help of DH, I was able to warp at least those 5 3/4". The rest of the already cut warp ends was used as weft.

Weaving was no fun either because of the small width but the result is so yummy. A dream in softness and colour. So much of a dream, that I nearly am forgetting the warping hell. Maybe, there will be another one. But not right now. In this, it's a bit like giving birth. You need some time in between the pain to forget it and try it again ;o)

Vor einiger Zeit machte ich aus Versehen einen Lichtechtheitstest mit einem meiner Schals. Der Schal lag über einer Kommode im Dachzimmer, direkt unter dem Dachfenster in direkter Sonne von morgens bis etwas nach Mittag. Ein Teil war durch eine kleine Stereoanlage abgedeckt und ein weiterer Teil lag hinter der Kommode. Irgendwann bemerkte ich tatsächlich was ich da getan hatte und das Ergebnis könnt ihr hier sehen.

Some time ago, I accidentially left one of my handwoven scarves on a dresser in the attic room, directly under the roof-window. A part of it was covered by a small stereo and another part behind the dresser in the shadow. Over a year (or a bit longer) it was in direct sunlight from early morning to about 2 pm. Sometimes, you just get used to a sight, that you really don't think about it too much. So it took me a while to realize what I had done. And the result of this accidental lightfastness test is this:

Mordanted in 10% alum over night, dyed slowly over night (alkanet) or longer (the rest) heated for about an hour to max 50°C (except the brazilwood and the onioskins where boiled beforehand) and left in the dye bath. Woven on a small RH.

The same, only in this picture the colours are a bit darker in reality. I suspect the white background is the reason.

As expected, there is fading. I mean, I have seen more fading in some synthetic dyes under similar conditions, not to mention the wood of the dresser. But there is less fading than expected in onionskin, although it is said, onionskin is not very lightfast. Unfortunately, alkanet really isn't very lightfast. As you can see on the picture below.

This is part of a the bat shawl from anticraft. Industrial merino yarn, dyed with alkanet (in spirit solution). It is my staple shawl for cold weather, and usually I wear it above my head with the tip of the triangle over my upper back under the coat. When it is really cold, I usually wear a cap over it as well. As you can see on the left, there is a lot of wear and tear and fading, compared to the right, which is the part that is always under the coat. I see an indigo vat waiting for this beauty ;o)

Ich habe gefärbt. Leider fehlt es mir vollständig an Talent diese Farben zu benennen, deswegen dürft ihr sie einfach so auf euch einwirken lassen ;o) Der Link führt übrigens zu Greener Shades, schwermetallfreien synthetischen Säurefarben aus den USA.

ah ja, wofür wir unsittlich gekleideten Frauen nicht alles zuständig sein sollen. Die Unzucht der Männer ... den Tremor der Erde ...
