Ich bin ja ein großer Fan von Farbexperimenten. Was mich am meisten reizt ist Farbe auf Pflanzenfasern zu bekommen. Vor einigen Jahren begann ich also mit Indigo. Wenn man da den Dreh erst einmal raus hat ist so eine Fermentantiosküpe keine wirkliche Herausforderung mehr und mit dem entsprechenden pH-Wert bekommt man von Baumwolle bis nepalesischem Nessel auch alles schön blau. Interessanter, weil etwas schwieriger sind dahingehend die anderen Naturfarben. Rotholz ist nicht wirklich lichtecht auf Baumwolle und Leinen (also im Sinne von täglichem Tragen nicht lichtecht) weswegen ich damit nicht mehr färben werde. Lohnt sich einfach nicht. Krapp ist, wie immer, einfach nur super. Und dann gab es noch sowas wie Cochenille, mit dem ich bis dato noch nicht gefärbt hatte, aber noch was bei mir rumlag und ich auch noch ein Kilo Blauholz übrig hatte, fiel da so manches in den Farbtopf. Nicht nur Pflanzenfasern, sondern auch Seide. (Mein nächstes Webprojekt wird ein Seidenschal aus Tussah, ich fahr so auf die naturgefärbten Tussahseiden bei Anita Pavani ab)

I'm a great fan of experimental dyeing with natural dyes. My special interest lies in cellulose fibres. Which is why I began to dye with indigo some years ago. When you deciphered how a fermentation vat works, it is no big secret and it dyes everything from cotton to nepalese nettle in wonderful blues. Brazilwood is not lightfast on cotton and linen (not lightfast in daily wear that is), so I won't use it again. Madder is superb, as always. And then there was cocheneal, which I hadn't used so far. But since I still had some quantity lying around, I thought, I'd give it a try. And the other dyestuff I didn't really eperiment with up to now, was logwood. During the last 2 weeks several fabrics and yarns fell into the dyepot, not only plant fibres but silk as well. My next weaving project will be a silk scarf. I really adore those plant dyed tussah fabrics over at Anita Pavani's.

Da fiel mir doch letztes Wochenende so ein Zopf limettengrünes Lincoln in den Korb. Und ursprünglich wollte ich es für Ringelsocken nehmen - ihr wisst ja, ich steh auf Massagesocken ;O) Aber dann fand ich noch ein Knäulchen von dem Rot und auf einmal wurde es ein Coilgarn. Sieht absolut cool aus. Mal sehen, was ich draus mache.

Last weekend a limegreen top lincoln found its way into my basket. Initially, I planned to knit some green and something socks with it but then I found a skein of this red single yarn and whoops a green and red coil yarn happened on my spinning wheel.
