Die letzte Woche habe ich wie besessen an diesem Stück gearbeitet. Das Bild ist leider noch nicht sonderlich gut, ich hoffe auf mehr Licht im Laufe des Tages. (Wobei wenn ich aus dem Fenster so auf das grau in grau des nasskalten Winters schaue, wage ich es dann doch zu bezweifeln, aber die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt *g*)

Dieses gute Stück hat mich die gesamte letzte Woche mit Beschlag belegt. Das Oberteil ist aus Shetlandwolle (handgesponnen) gestrickt und dann per Hand gewalkt worden damit es nicht zu klein wird. Auch so ist es ein wirklich dichtes, relativ dickes Gewalk geworden, das sicherlich einiges an Wind abhalten wird. Das Unterteil besteht aus eine langen Streifen abwechselnder Farben meiner letztjährigen Färbesession. Krapp, Schilf, Zwiebelschalen, Sandelholz und Blauholz welchseln sich in jeweils 2 Reihen ab. Die Ärmel wurden direkt angestrickt und sind aus demselben Shetland aber ungefilzt mit bunten Abschlüssen. Und der Name hat sich aus der Form ergeben. Die wiederum eine Art Entwicklung und definitiv nicht so geplant war. Nun meditiere ich noch etwas über Verschlüsse, die dazu passen.

Last week, I was obsessed with finishing this piece. So far, it was finished yesterday (still missing some kind of clasps or closures) but unfortunately, the light was not good enough for a better picture. I still hope for some sun today (though I'm rather sceptical when I look out of the window at the grey mingled with even more grey of a cold, wet winter's day).

The bodice is knit in handspun shetland, hand felted to get the size right. Not something I can recommend, unless there are some major agression issues to resolve. But it is fairly thick and fairly stiff, just as I envisioned it for an outdoor coat/jacket. The lower part is a long strip of about 60 cm width alternating dyed yarn from last year's dye sessions. Madder, logwood, reed, onion skin and sandalwood each in 2 rows knit into a rather long strip and sewed to the bodice. The sleeves are the same shetland, this time not felted adorned with some dyed yarns at the end.

It got its name from the overall asian looking design which happened rather organically during knitting and was not planned from the beginning. Guess, I work better on the fly than on the design board ;o)
